Dons' Summer Highlights - Kiera Irving '25

☀️Dons’ Summer Highlights☀️ Kiera Irving ‘25 participated in the Notre Dame Summer Scholars Program this June! While there, she studied neuroscience and was able to participate in various types of research, conduct experiments, use medical grade equipment and experience a college environment and traditions at Notre Dame. Ms. Fiore, Kiera’s English teacher and a Notre Dame graduate, told her about the program and helped her through the application process. Kiera hopes to pursue an education in medicine after graduating from Cathedral Catholic and shares that she found this program to be insightful as to what she goes on to do in the future:

“I had to the opportunity this past June to spend two weeks at the University of Notre Dame participating in their Summer Scholars program studying Neuroscience. In the classroom, we focused on the effects on N170 and P300 responses shown in EEGs. During the second week, my group and I conducted an experiment on our peers to learn more about the effects of pressure on the P300 response. Outside of the classroom, I experienced college life and the traditions of Notre Dame like dorm Masses and bookstore basketball. In the evenings, I was either at Eddy Street with friends, playing beach volleyball, going on group walks around the lake or attending all the fun games/events that were being hosted that night. I hope to pursue an education in medicine after CCHS, and as much as I found the neuroscience class interesting, I realized I am more interested in a different field of medicine.

At Cathedral Catholic, Kiera is a member of National Honor Society and Dons for Life. She is also a Link Crew Leader and will be the junior representative for the second annual TEDx event this year.
