International Students Home Enrollment Enrollment Process International Students

The diverse backgrounds, experiences, histories and cultures represented by international students add richness to and are valued by the Cathedral Catholic student body. Below are the enrollment procedures for international students, or students that are not United States citizens, who are considering Cathedral Catholic High School.

Enrollment Application Process

Step 1 – Sit for the TOEFL iBT Exam (Test of English as a Foreign Language internet-based test)
  • Registration for the TOEFL iBT exam is available online on the Educational Testing Service website. Cathedral Catholic High School’s school code is #2939. Please have the results reported to Cathedral Catholic.
  • Cathedral Catholic only accepts TOEFL iBT exam scores (not TOEFL Junior scores). International applicants applying for admission to grades 9 or 10 in the fall must earn a minimum score of 71
  • TOEFL iBT scores often take 6-8 weeks to process after the exam. Please plan accordingly.
Step 2 – Necessary Paperwork Due February 8, 2025

All paperwork submitted to Cathedral Catholic High School must be translated into English by a certified translator. Cathedral Catholic strongly encourages applicants to submit paperwork as early as possible in order to meet the January 25, 2025 application deadline. The following must be submitted:

  • Application form – completed and submitted online by the applicant's parent/guardian
  • Student questionnaire – completed by the student in his/her own words
  • Previous two years of student grades – Upon applying, families will have access to the document request forms and information about submitting transcripts to the school’s designated translation & evaluation service. Course descriptions must accompany transcripts, as well as a description of the school’s grading/evaluation system.
  • Standardized test scores – Submit the student’s standardized test scores for previous school years.
  • Copy of birth certificate or passport – to verify child’s date of birth and legal name
  • Immunization records – provided by the child's school or parent/guardian
    • Tuberculosis (TB) and pertussis (Tdap) booster proof of tuberculosis (TB) testing after September 1, 2012 and pertussis (Tdap) booster given within the past seven years
  • Student recommendation forms – given to the student’s current school for completion. Please refer to the Ravenna hub for instructions.
  • Proof of guardianship – if planning to live with non-natural parents
  • International student information sheet – needed for I-20 paperwork if the student is accepted. Available in the Ravenna hub
  • I-134 Affidavit of Support – found on the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services website
  • Application/processing fee of $150 is due upon completion of the online application.
Step 3 – Interview
  • Once Cathedral Catholic High School has received the TOEFL iBT scores and a completed application packet, the Enrollment Committee will review the student’s file. The school will contact the family to arrange for the student’s interview (via Skype) with Cathedral Catholic’s Director of Enrollment.
  • The interview is the last step of the application process and can not be scheduled until the rest of the application is complete. Interviews typically take place in April and May.
Step 4 – Offer of Enrollment, Deposit and I-20
  • After the student’s interview, the Enrollment Committee will notify the student of its decision regarding acceptance.
  • At the time a student is accepted for enrollment, the following is required for Cathedral Catholic to issue the student an I-20:
    • $5,000 deposit
    • Letter from the family’s banking institution confirming sufficient funds to cover one-year’s tuition (international students must pay the balance of annual tuition in full by July 1 before the start of the school year)
    • American address where the student will live during the school year
  • Upon receiving the student’s deposit, bank letter and U.S. address, the Office of Enrollment will issue the student an I-20 through the Student and Exchange Visitors Information System (SEVIS).
  • Students must read their I-20 carefully so they understand their responsibilities as international students in the United States.
Step 5 – Obtaining an F-1 Visa
  • International students must have an F-1 student visa to enter the United States.
  • The I-20 that Cathedral Catholic issues to students will allow them to receive an F-1 visa to legally begin school in the United States. Please visit the Study in the States site for additional information on being a student in the United States.
  • Upon receiving the I-20 from Cathedral Catholic, families must go online to pay the SEVIS I-901 F-1 visa administrative fee of $100 at least three days before their embassy or consulate visit.
  • Don’t delay in seeking an embassy appointment, as it may take some time. The U.S. Embassy in a student’s country can confirm with the family the documents to bring to the appointment to obtain an F-1 student visa.
Step 6 – Tuition and Fee Agreement and Registration

Upon acceptance, Cathedral Catholic High School will send information on how to set up a tuition and fee agreement for the 2025-2026 school year. Accepted students will also receive additional information to facilitate their enrollment in the school.

  • Total tuition for international students for the 2024-2025 year is $23,695, which includes the following:
    • $5,000 deposit
    • $15,910 tuition
    • $2,785 International Student Injury and Sickness Insurance
  • Annual tuition is due July 1 before the start of school and is non-refundable.
  • Completing the online tuition and fee agreement is imperative to confirm that the child will be attending Cathedral Catholic High School in the fall.
  • Families that choose not to enroll their child in the fall must let the Office of Enrollment know by emailing during the final registration process.
  • Upon receiving a child’s acceptance, the family should submit a request to the student’s current school for official final transcripts to be sent to Cathedral Catholic no later than June 27, 2025.
