☀️ Dons’ Summer Highlights ☀️ Nylah King-Boyd ‘24 recently completed a program with the UCSD Research Scholars on Mammalian Cells and Tissues! The program allowed participants to receive instruction on preparing solutions, executing biochemical procedures, and data analysis. This knowledge can be used for researching conditions such as cancer, neurodegenerative diseases and arthritis and for developing treatments. After graduating from Cathedral Catholic, Nylah plans to study biomedical engineering to pursue a career in medicine, studying cell culture and medicine. She shares that the leadership skills she has acquired at CCHS have led her to pursue learning opportunities outside of the classroom in order to prepare for her future career:

“I've learned a lot of leadership skills at CCHS that have encouraged me to pursue my interests. I've also learned to seek out opportunities to continue learning outside of the classroom and to speak up for myself in a learning environment, having been surrounded by a community that supports students in all their endeavors. Mrs. Lopatka’s AP Biology labs and Science National Honor Society talks also inspired me to do more with biology.”

At CCHS, Nylah is the president of the California Scholarship Federation and of the Black Student Union. She is also a member of the Science National Honor Society, rows on the Varsity Crew Team and was a student leader for Cathedral Catholic’s inaugural TEDx event this last year.
